Franklin Township Task Force organized an educational and awareness forum on the proposed Compressor Gas Station 206 and NESE Project, February 27, 2017, at Sampson G Smith School in Somerset, NJ.
Representatives from various NGOs, including NJ Sierra Club, ReThink Energy, NY/NJ Baykeeper, Food & Water Watch, presented valuable information to an audience of over 350 people. The forum focused on making people aware of the most concerning issues on health, environment, fire and safety, related to this compressor station. Tips on how to get involved in the protest by reaching out to neighbors and communities, distributing flyers at public events, writing to legislative members, elected officials and press were also discussed. Ed Potosnak, N J League of Conservation Voters, was the moderator. Franklin Township Mayor, Dr. Phil Kramer introduced the attending politicians.
RACS 206 and Central Jersey Safe Energy Coalition teams were among a number of organizations who manned tables with flyers and handouts on various related topics. The forum concluded with a Question and Answer session. Gaurav Tyagi from RACS 206 represented the group on that panel. The importance of commenting on FERC and being an intervenor in the later phase during the process was emphasized.
The task force had also arranged a few laptops in the back of the room to help people register and enter FERC comments.
